Kyiv, Maidan, back in September (or early October):

Moscow, a few days ago:

On a personal note, I'm totally unprepared to face all this cold and gloom - half a year of it or so - again. I'm thinking about my mother, who ran off to Sevastopol in the 1960s, because she had to live by the sea. There she met my father, and that's how we ended up in Kyiv, back north. I wouldn't want to live in Crimea now, even though I love the place and feel heartbroken about the politics and other shit taking place there. And it's not the sea that I miss, but the sun - and, most of all, the people who aren't used to having to freeze themselves every six months. I wish I'd had the guts to run off, too. Maybe it's not too late still. Or is it.

  1. Looks like a relatively short line to see Lenin that day, heh.

  2. Some of the positions for which Hubby is applying could lead to an assignment in Moscow. I am SOOO totally against moving there. Kyiv is about as far north as I can go -- or Chicago, as the US equivalent.

So for now, I'm enjoying our stay in Florida! (Come visit, if you need to escape to the sunshine!)

  3. Thank you! How I wish I could... :)

Best wishes to you and the wonderful boys (they are SO big now!) - and I hope the neighbor's child will recover...

  4. we have the same dread in Minnesota, but at least for some reason the cold and snow does not translate into giant mud slicks in the entrance to every building. I don't know why. I think the snow must be drier here.

  5. Yes, and the grass greener... :)))

Is this going to be your first snowy winter since 2002? Should be beautiful - and fun for the boys...

There wasn't much snow here last year - and we still haven't had any yet now, very unusual. Hope there'll be some eventually, so that I could finally go and buy a sledge for Marta...
