One more photo from our Sunday's walk - the fire department on Prechistenka:

The upper part of the mural is about the 1853 fire at the Bolshoi Theater; the lower part is about the 1977 fire at Hotel Rossiya. (For a bigger copy, see here.)

  1. The funny thing is that in both cases of fire, the firefighter is standing with a smirk on his face and his firehose dry as those buildings go up in flames.

  2. Hey, is that a mosaic? If so, was probably done by our friends Sasha and Felix who used to be at the Art-Kombinat in Moscow...or at least they would know who did it.

  3. Sort of off topic, but it has always amused me how uninspired most Russian names for buildings and businesses are, once you translate them into English. "Big Theater" or "Russia Hotel" sort of leave one wondering what the planners were thinking, or not thinking as the case may be.
