I ran into an LJ entry about "pox parties" yesterday. Crazy.

I can't believe there are people out there (both in the States and here) who'd voluntarily expose their unvaccinated kids to chickenpox - instead of, say, exposing them to some fresh air for a few more hours...

  1. I live in the US and I didn't do this for my daughter. I went with the vaccine when I went back to work and knew that I could not take off three weeks from work to nurse her if she got it. However, I can understand why people would bring their babies to "pox parties." Chickenpox is so common, and I have known adults that have gotten it with really gruesome complications. I had chickenpox as a child, and I'm very happy that I got it over with in a comparatively mild form.
