I was in Vitebsk years ago and remember how oppressive it was then with AK-47s on every block. It was surreal. I thought, what, the young soldier is going to make sure everyone makes the bus on time? This was around 98 and the thug was just in office at the time, prior to breaking the laws and extending his rule. Such bright people living in such oppressive conditions. My prayers are with them and hope they can break down the walls one day. They are so brave to stand up.
